Arcylic, resin, ink on surfboard. 69"x20"x3" Full view recommended.

A project formerly known as project Necocli. I started back in March of 04, but I lost interest in it, then eventually got into a really bad funk. 2 weeks ago, I started to pick up my brush again, and this is the end result. Granted, the board itself is of a very shallow subject matter with little to no conceptual basis behind it, but the sheer joy I got from painting this places the piece in a special place in my heart. now I'm pumped to paint again.

Special thanks to Anthony Sussan, Neco Armstrong for her surfboard, Niece, Kelly White and Ruby Young for being the artistic and moralistic support. This dedication is for you guys.

I think I may have asked you think once before. Do you sand the board down or do you paint over the fiberglass?? I saw on the DA livejournal (the process) that you resined over the paint... how did the map come out, does it sit pretty flush under the resin?

I saw this on the LJ board and I had to stop by your gallery. Beautiful work!

problem with transparencies is that they like to float around on top of the resin, so first I had to get the air bubbles out by using a separate stick to squeegie it. Then I place couple more layers of resin on top so it stayed faily well under flush. parts of the edges curled up a bit, but it's not noticeable unless you're really up close to it.

As far as sanding goes, yeah, I did minor sanding, only enough to catch the coat of the Kilz Oil based spray primer. The fiberglass would have to be pried out so no, I painted on top of the polyurethane resin that was already on it. Fiberglass however, goes transparent under the resin anyway so you can paint underneath the fiberglass. Hope that answers all the questions.

I believe "art" is more than just a decor on the wall. It's an opportunity to reach out to the world and make others see and feel in the perspective that you want them to feel. Don't lose out on the chance to make them think.
